Publication of international standard for satellite services

ISO/TS 22591 Spaced-based for a high accuracy positioning system with safety requiremens

The first international standard to support businesses using satellite positioning was proposed by Japan and published in July 2021.

This standard stipulates requirements for safe driving of not only manned but also unmanned vehicles by making full use of high-precision positioning technology even on roads with poor visibility due to bad weather. For example, in order to safely carry out snow removal work during heavy snowfall, it describes the road structure and roadside belt conditions that have disappeared due to snowfall, and how to deal with pedestrians, obstacles on the road, and oncoming vehicles. In addition to snow removal services, it will contribute to the safety of operations and navigation at work sites, including automatic agricultural machinery, road cleaning vehicles, construction machinery, and ships.
